About Us

Lion and Sun Student Association

A community of Iranian students at the University of Toronto, united for a free Iran.

Our Goal

We aim to echo the voices of the brave Iranians fighting for their freedom. From campus halls in Toronto to the streets of Iran, we believe no act of courage should go unheard — and that the diaspora has a duty to amplify it.

We stand behind a free Iran, and behind transitional leader Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.

Who We Are

A little about the people and purpose behind the association.

Our Community

United for a Free Iran

We are Iranian students at the University of Toronto — undergraduates, graduates, and everyone in between — united by a shared commitment to a free and democratic Iran. What began as a handful of students refusing to stay silent has grown into an organized community that advocates for our homeland and supports one another in doing so.

Our Advocacy

Amplifying the voices of Iran

We organize gatherings, talks, and commemorations so that the courage of the people of Iran is seen and heard here in Toronto. We stand with those risking everything for their freedom, and we carry their stories to a wider audience.

On Campus

Everyone's Welcome at the Table

Beyond advocacy, we host debates and discussion tables that are open to everyone; you don't need to share our views to pull up a chair. All we ask is that you engage in good faith and treat others with respect; disagreement is welcome, hostility is not.

Beyond Iran's Borders

A Threat Close to Home

The Islamic Republic's threats do not stop at Iran's borders. Its agents have surveilled, harassed, and intimidated Iranian-Canadians here at home, and in 2020 the regime shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752, killing 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents. We raise awareness of these threats and stand with the Iranian-Canadian community affected by them.
